There’s a kind of place in Madeira that no road reaches. You get there on foot, then on a rope, then by swimming, and by the time you arrive the island has gone completely quiet. These are the places where only canyoneers go. We’d tell you the coordinates, but that would spoil the walk.

No queues. No gift shop. Just the crew and a silence you could bottle.
