DAY 2 – HIKING WEEK – LEVADA DA FAJÃ DO RODRIGUES

On the second day, we had to make a small change from the initial plan.

The weather wasn’t appropriate to go high up on the mountains it was cloudy, so the astonishing views weren’t available 🙂

We decided to go to the north side of the island and walk on a very green Levada, with some waterfalls and several tunnels.

This levada is around 8 km and takes place at only 580 meters high.

This Levada’s origin takes place on Ribeira do Inferno (one of our top-level canyons), which marks the frontier between Seixal and São Vicente.

The water that this Levada carries is mainly used to irrigate the crop fields in Sao Vicente area.

There are several exotic species at the beginning of the Levada like the Pine trees and eucalyptus, as soon as you start getting deeper inside the path everything turns green…

The real natural green of Madeira Island, the amazing Laurel Forest.
