CHRISTMAS IN MADEIRA ISLAND 2020

If we were asked which month is the most special in Madeira island it would unquestionably be December, Christmas and new years eve celebrations make it something really special.

December has a wide range of well-established traditions such as the Childbirth Mass, the markets, the food of the season, the lights and of course the drinks as well.

This has been an atypical year, so we’ve got a few limitations… Regarding several aspects like group sizes, events, and the timetable for everything to close.

What we’ll do is to bring you this month a bit of how things are going on here, regarding our celebrations.

And we’ll start today with some of the decors that you can see all over the city of Funchal! The always dazzling Christmas lights, which are an ex-libris of our capital!

For us personally, this is one of the best light decors that we’ve seen for a while. Especially the tunnel in Funchal’s pier that has a music and light show that’s just marvellous.

So as you can see, even in this harsh Covid19 times, the traditional beauty of Christmas in Madeira island is still very much present as always.
